I have a 8 year old dachshund that I so love, but her back is messed up and she has been in pain. We are hoping rest will help
I bred Dachshunds for a while but let mine all go this year. Is yours a standard or mini? Weight is a serious problem for them and they should never be allowed to jump down off, for instance, the bed or sofa. They have a tendancy to develop back issues as a result.
That being said, glucosomine or shark cartlidge (spelled those wrong sorry) works wonders. If you have 1/2 dose aspirins around, they can give relief as well but I would check with a vet first. Probably a half tab per day but check first. If she is small and you own a fish scale, put her in a grocery bag and hang on the scale for an accurate weight.
There are some other reliable products available to make her more comfortable but prevention and exercise are still the best. Hope you can get a handle on this. If you need any more info, PM me and I will get the info for you!

Will be praying for your family and your beloved pet that she will not continue to suffer.

If the bowels don't move, then you have a much bigger problem.
I agree with Santa in Shelburne about limiting certain actions with Doxies... Like kids, they think they can do anything, and like kids, they get hurt - but with the very long spine, it's many times the back.
Hope things work out well for all of you.
