EXCERPT:
January 4th, 2011
For immediate release:
HireSanta.com, the Internet's best place to find and hire Santa Clauses, is proud to announce that Mitchell Allen --- "Santa Allen" --- has been named the 2011 HireSanta.com Santa Claus of the Year. He was chosen because of the unanimously positive reviews of those who were interviewed and for the body of work that he performed during 2011.
Tammi Bradley, a spokeswoman with HireSanta.com, who made the announcement, said: "Santa Allen is the rare Santa Claus that can appear on the cover of a magazine, in a parade, at a corporate event, or simply one-on-one with a small child, and convey the spirit of Christmas equally well. We at HireSanta.com are happy to have him as our 2011 Santa of the Year, and we look forward to seeing where he will appear in 2012!"
Some of the noteworthy appearances Santa Allen made during 2011 were: promotional videos for Ask.com and Radio Shack; the Official City of Dallas Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony; "Deck the Hall" with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson Symphony Center; features in the Dallas Morning News, local radio and TV stations, and numerous hospital, corporate and family visits.
Said Santa Allen: "I am so honored to have been selected as the 2011 HireSanta.com Santa Claus of the Year! It is humbling to think of all the great Santa Clauses throughout the U.S. and Canada, and around the world. I love being Santa, whether it is to a single child or to a group of thousands, the love and joy that I try to bring each appearance is the same. HireSanta.com is such a great site. I want to thank everyone there, and I want to thank all the people that supported me in getting this award."
Ms. Bradley continues: "HireSanta.com was glad to be a small part of Santa Allen's success in 2011 by helping event coordinators and individuals find him. We hope that this award will help to draw attention to, and result in additional appearances for, Santa Allen. We heard over and over from PR agencies and photographers to grandparents that he is a true professional and an amazing and beautiful Santa."
With the award, Santa Allen will also be featured on the new HireSanta.com, which is being rebuilt from the ground up, beginning in January 2012.

Create your own website then name yourself the "Santa Claus of the Year". Umm, okay...
A little more complicated than that, but yes I own part of it (and more importantly, now own the IP).

Just curious to who and how the winner was chosen?

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with self promotion. I just think you loose a lot of credibility by awarding "Santa Claus of the Year" to yourself. It kind of reminds me of the scene from Shrek where Lord Farquaad named himself King...A little more complicated than that, but yes I own part of it (and more importantly, now own the IP).

My best reward is a hug and a smile... I too see nothing wrong with self promotion, if you don't toot your own horn nobody will, but don't break your arm patting yourself on the back at the same time.

AMEN Tim!I sure have no need or desire to be Santa of the year, or would I call myself such things like that or The Best Santa. I never want to feel that way. I will work to get better at what I do and that is just being the best I can be for the children on a daily basis.
Oh congratulations to Santa Allen where ever you are.
A wise Santa here on ClausNet once said: "Santa Claus should be a calling, not a shouting..."

Reminds me of the time back in the late '80s over in Palm Springs. There was a Magician that went to all the pawn shops and bought a bunch of old trophies for parts then went in to a trophy shop and had a 6 foot tall trophy made proclaiming him as the all time greatest magician out there in the desert. The thing was huge!
Then every year he would put out a piece on the "award" and each year he had another little plaque made and placed on the trophy naming him again each year. The little papers would go out and take his picture standing next to this towering trophy and do a little write up on his business as a magician. This went on for several years and it never failed to give his business a boost each time he did it. Only problem was, though he was a competent magician with decent skills, his advertizement did not match the show he was able to produce and eventually word got around that he was not that great by word of mouth from customers. He was good but not what he was touting himself as and so he eventually got out of the business and sold cars, then vacuums.
It is a funny little story now among the magicians that remember that time and that person but by advertising himself as something he was not, he damaged all the magicians in the area simply because folks would say "I hired the "Greatest" and he wasn't all that good." making it harder for other magicians to find work.
Self promotion is good as long as you can deliver what your selling. Too often in the business of entertainment you see people saying anything to get the job and then trying to fill the bill after they land the account. If you have the skills and can hustle the show this does no harm but when you don't deliver on the expectations of the customer, everybody else in that market is damaged. As Dr Bob of Red Silk Variety once told me, "Don't let your mouth write a check your brain can't cover."
Have fun and may your season be Joyous and prosperous.
Yours,
Santa Gordon
