We will start off the morning with "Breakfast with Santas" at several resturants, we will follow with a full costume parade with Santa's mobile sleighs of several types, a "sleigh float", a Santa Fire Truck, and a few decorated Golf carts!, We will have Photos with Santa, Shopping with Ms Claus, Storytelling by Santa, Reindeer 101, Elf 101, Elf Games for the kids, Lunch with Santas, Santa look-a-like contest, (for guests, judged by Ms. Claus) Gulf Boat Cruises with Santas, etc, etc. The Sponge Merchants Association is also inviting a contingent of children from local hospitals and special care clinics to participate in some of these festivities and are planning some special Santa events especially for these children.

We already have 53 Santas, Ms Claus and elves signed up for a really fun-filled day, July 11th, in Tarpon Springs, Florida. The City of Tarpon Springs and the Sponge Merchants Association is hoping to create a huge event with vendors, other entertainers, but of course the main attraction will be the 50-60 vacationing and shopping Santas, Ms Claus and the Elves!

If successful this year, they want to do it every year!!!!

Wish us luck, we think we may be approaching the largest group of Santas to attend a single "Christmas In July" celebration in the nation???? ho ho ho!

Collecting smiles,

Santa Bob

HO HO HO!

WE are now a week (and a day) away from our big celebration: Christmas In July!

On Saturday July 11th, the Palm Tree Santas have a day of FUN planned for all the area children and the big kids too! We currently have 70 thats seventy! Santas, Ms Claus and a few elves signed up to bring a little sea of red to Tarpon Springs!

We have some great workshops for the kids, Reindeer 101 and Elf 101 that are really going to bring a lot of laughter, joy and maybe even a little pride when they get their "Elf" diploma!

We will have "Elf Games" for the kids, a Santa look-a-like contest, Santa-America info booth, Christmas Carols and of course our big Christmas in July parade, well big to us, little compared to Celebrate Santa's really big parade!

We believe we are bringing to the table a "city" Christmas In July celebration that could possibly be emulated by groups of Santas throughout "clausnetland" working with their respective cities. When we wrap this up, we will be glad to share anything we learn.

Wish you could all be with us to share in the fun and collect all those smiles, but we believe you all with be with us in spirit and be wishing us well!

Collecting smiles,

Santa Bob

HO HO HO! We wanted everyone to know what a great time we had with our first "Christmas In July" event. We had a total of 66 Santas, Ms Claus and Elves participating! Our Christmas Parade down the main avenue was a big hit with the crowd and the Santas in our full red suits!

The Reindeer 101 and Elf 101 workshops were a blast for the children, after the workshop and reciting of the "Elf Oath" each child was awarded a "diploma". The Elf Games consisted of "Harness the Reindeer", "Wrap a Package", and "Trim the Tree". Each child had to complete each of the three games to win their choice of a very nice stuffed animal. We had a 3 piece band playing Christmas music, a strolling troupe of Christmas Carolers, our own group of Santas playing the sax and singing Christmas Carols, Sightseeing trips with Santa aboard cruise boats and all the visiting Santas & Ms, strolling, shopping and posing for pictures! We offered special photos with Santa for a donation and raised a little money for our favorite charity, Santa-America! We even had a Santa-look-a-like contest! ho ho ho! The main street was decorated in Christmas garland and many of the shops put up their Christmas decorations!

We were honored to have Santa Joe and Mary Moore, architects of Celebrate Santa visit us, we put 'em to work, leading the Elf workshop and then participating in all the FUN!

The Tarpon Springs Sponge Merchants Association and the local restaurants provided us with significant discounts on our breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The Holiday Inn Express provided us with a deep discount on our lodging, and the use of their meeting room! We all had a really good time, they are already asking the Palm Tree Santas to return next year, with the promise of even bigger crowds and more perks for the Santas!!

If anyone would like to see a slide show of our Christmas in July event, go to www.palmtreesantas.com and click on Latest News, there you will find a link for the photos!

Santa Jim Williams is also going to try and post some pictures on the ClausNET gallery!

With all the Santas we really took over the City of Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks that Saturday! If any Santa group would like to consider duplicating a Christmas in July in a City in your area, we will be glad to provide any information we can to help you! It was a terrific snowstorm!

Great event and GREAT photos re-capping it, Santa Bob!

Wish we could have been there, but asthma keeps me home and in the A.C.

most of the time in July and August.

Santa Charlie, our Elf, Jingles and myself did venture out on the 21st. to do our

annual appearance at the Barons Baseball Christmas In July event again this

year. The good Lord was watching over us in that a cold front came through the

night before the event and was with us through the event with record setting low

humidity and low temps of our area. It was in upper 70's with a sligh breeze blowing

and humidity around 30-40% which is more than do-able for me. I was thrilled to

be able to attend this year! Unfortunately, my camera decided it had had enough and

died on me, so no photos this year of the event! Might be able to retrieve one of Santa & Jingles

before the game tho.

Anyhow, the Tarpon Springs Event looked like a really fun event for all that were there and

the parade looked like a lot of fun too. EVERYBODY loves a parade!

Best Wishes to you all for all that you do!

    • 10 Essentials to Being a Better Santa
Here are some DOs and DON'Ts on being Santa

      Treat every child with respect.

Never make fun of a child.

Look into the child’s eyes when you speak to them.

Speak softly. Children are sharing confidences with you.

Acknowledge a child’s requests even if you don’t understand them.

Never promise a toy request to avoid a child’s disappointment.

Never promise a pet. Santas a toymaker and only animals produce pets.

If the child can’t remember their wish list, assure them you know what they want.

Never leave a child wondering if Santa heard their Christmas wishes.

Every child worries about being on Santas “Naughty or Nice List”. Tell each child “You’re on the “Nice List.” It will bring happiness to everyone!

    • How do You Portray Santa?
Portraying Santa is acting; it is a characterization of a mythical character.

Most of us never think of ourselves as actors, but we are. Certain characteristics of Santa Claus have been handed down from one generation to another. The way we dress and conduct ourselves all follow an established pattern.

Santa Claus is one of the most recognizable characters throughout the world. This came about from the advertising campaign of the Coke Cola Company and the creative painting genius, of Haddon Sundblom. Coke Cola was looking to increase winter sales of its soft drink and hired Sundblom to produce illustrations for prominent magazines. These illustrations appeared during the holiday season from the late 1930s into the early 1970s and set the standard for how Santa should look.

This characterization of Santa with rosy cheeks, a white beard, handlebar mustache plus a red costume trimmed in white fur is the image most everyone has in their minds. Unconsciously people are going to judge you against that image. If your beard isn’t white or you have a soiled suit it will register with the onlooker.

By the way, the majority of Sundblom's paintings depict Santa with a Brown Belt and Brown Boots. Not until his later illustrations did he change the color to Black for these items. Within the past few years many costume companies have offered the Coke Cola Suit and it has become very popular. You can tell it by the large buttons and absence of fur down the front of the jacket.

No matter how you portray Santa, be it home visits, schools, churches, parades, corporate events, malls, hospitals we all make an entrance and an impression! The initial impression we make determines if our client will ask us to return.

      The 5 Second Rule

I have a theory: When you enter the presence of your audience you have about 5 seconds to make people believe you are the real Santa.

    • Not Everyone Can Be Santa!
Yes, I said it and it is not meant to hurt anyone’s feelings. I do view many Facebook sites along with websites and posted photos. Frankly, many of these postings should have never been put on public display.

    • Auld Lang Syne
Every New Year’s Eve at the stroke of midnight, millions around the world traditionally gather together to sing the same song, “Auld Lang Syne”. As revilers mumble though the song’s versus, it often brings many of them to tears – regardless of the fact that most don’t know or even understand the lyrics. Confusion over the song’s lyrics is almost as much of a tradition as the song itself. Of course that rarely stops anyone from joining in.

Is it time to start calling out Bad Santas?

Do you think we should start calling out those in our community whose actions or behavior is unbecoming of Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus?
